I am reviewing Camp Burson which is actually outside the Park. My $33 rate included an extra $5 dog fee. Not sure what I got for that fee. They don't seem interested in even trying to enforce their pet rules. Mine was one of the few I saw around the park that was on a leash. That's my only negative. I got here a couple days after the Burson campground (There are 3 others.) opened for the year. I had a couple neighbors on the weekends but was otherwise alone. Camp store and office was closed. Checkin was at the main office. There are several large pull thrus among the 36 in the older section. Most of those have full hookups. All the hookups look very close to new. I wouldn't be surprised if I was the first one to use mine. Sites 37 thru 52 are new. They finished work and opened that section a couple days after I arrived. Those sites are all w/e, some back in and a few large pull thrus. Most of the new sites are larger than the old. Some of the old back in sites are probably unsuitable for anything bigger than a popup. The WiFi worked well. Satellite dish worked on my site (#22) and probably would on most of the others. The park has a really nice system of trails. There is an entrance to one loop right next to Burson. The rest are in the Park itself about a mile up the road. Marion isn't exactly a metropolis but all the basic shopping and dining choices are around. The plaza at the end of State Park Rd has pizza, Chinese carry out, Walmart, liquor, Radio Shack and a nice grocery store. What else could anyone need?

With a very few exceptions, sites range from large to huge. They can be muddy and somewhat out of level though. Some with full shade, some partial. Cell coverage was adequate and a dish will work from some sites. The WiFi was available only next to the office not from the camp sites. Access to Savannah is convenient. There are plenty of food and shopping choices nearby. The staff was very accommodating. They had both water and electrical problems while I was there but did there best under difficult circumstances until they were corrected.

As other reviewers have said, the beach and convenient access to it are the major positives here. The sites are generally level and reasonably sized with several exceptions. A few sites have some inconveniently placed trees. A dish will work but only on a handful of sites. There are assorted shopping and dining choices within a short drive.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The beach is fabulous. My favorite sites are at the north end of the beach campground. They are open and sunny, which is a good thing in December, with great beach access. The south end of the beach campground and especially the Live Oaks section are more heavily wooded to the point that getting around can be tricky. The water is foul. I found it undrinkable and wasn't even that thrilled washing with it. That is with a filter too. The dump station is quite a distance from the beach campground, including around a mile on a state highway. There's not much around as far as shopping and services go. The grocery store right across the street has the basics but otherwise isn't very impressive. There was a decent hardware store nearby. The nearest laundromat was a 30 minute drive and all of the driers were out of order. The only major plus was the beach but that's probably not enough to get me to come back.

Sites are large, level and well spaced. Only a few have sewer hookups. Very nice beach is a short walk away via a couple paths through the woods. Park is wooded but not so much so as to present problems getting into sites. Cell coverage is good and dishes should work well on most, but not all, sites. Plenty of shopping and dining nearby. I will be back.

Beautiful beach a short walk away via nice boardwalks. The Wi-Fi covers the two loops nearest the store adequately. Others will have to use the picnic table next to it. Some of the sites are rather small and some have inconveniently placed trees that could be a problem for large rigs. I'm not suggesting they should stay away just pick their site carefully. On site 29 I couldn't find a way to park my 30 foot TT so I could open the slide out and awning at the same time. The laundromat is one of the nicest I've ever seen at a campground. I wouldn't avoid coming back but I think I prefer Huntington Beach State Park a few miles away. Good cell coverage. Satellite Dish is possible, but difficult, from some sites. Plenty of good shopping and eating nearby.

My site (#4) was packed gravel, large and level. I think some of the others are concrete. Sites I saw ranged from decent sized to huge. Most were shaded. Mine wasn't but it was chilly so the sun was welcome and the satellite signal was solid. I had the loop to myself for most of two weeks. I only saw four other campers in the whole campground during that time. The bath house and dump station are both a long way from many of the sites. In general a nice place with lots of solitude, that time of year at least.

My site (#60) was decent sized and level. Some others I saw were neither. I was barely able to reach the sewer hookup with a 12 foot hose. Park was generally well kept. Each site had a trash can that was emptied frequently. Most of the workers were prison inmates. They seemed to be doing a good job but weren't supervised very closely. The park office was very helpful when I had a minor mechanical problem and had to have a part shipped to me.

Nice, large level sites. Mine had some drainage problems after a day of heavy rain but it wasn't horrible. Windy but that goes with being near the ocean. Beautiful, clean, well kept beach. I paid the extra $5 to be adjacent to it. No ground fires allowed on those sites. No trees so no privacy. As somebody else mentioned, multiple new bath houses were under construction. Staff was great as I've always found to be the case in Texas State Parks.

Reasonably sized, level and very private sites in wooded area. Be sure to accept their offer to look before you select a site. Some can be very tight because they are so densely wooded. Though dense the trees are short enough a dish will work on many sites. The water pressure at my site occasionally exceeded 95 psi so a regulator was a must. I think they were working on the park water system so this might have been temporary. The WiFi only served one of the beach areas and the immediate vicinity of the office.

Nearly new and extremely well maintained facilities. For example, my grill and fire ring were actually painted and rust free. Privacy is somewhat lacking but there are lots of newly planted trees so that will improve with time. I thought the w/e sites, not in the main loop, were the nicest if you can do without a sewer hookup. There is a smaller loop, also w/e, with some of the largest pull through sites I've ever seen. WiFi is free and works well.

This is my second visit (and review). There will be a third. The facilities are nearly new and well maintained. Sites are large, level and well spaced. I can honestly say I haven't seen a bad site here. My favorites though are along the river where the barges go by. Staff was a little confused by recent changes in their reservation system but friendly and trying their best to be helpful. There is a low drone from the adjacent plant but I found it to be a very, very minor annoyance. Demopolis has the basics as far as shopping and eating go but not much beyond that. There is a little place called the "Sandwich Shop" nearby with wifi.

This is a huge state park. I had no problem finding the park but got lost twice inside it on the way to the campground. Lots of trees. Facilities were mostly clean and reasonably well maintained. The laundry I used was in very good shape. Staff was friendly and helpful. There were several sites with what appeared to be long term residents. Some of the RVs looked like they had been there for long enough that they probably weren't roadworthy anymore.

Campground is not near a swamp, it is in it. Sites are nicely sized, paved, fairly level and well spaced. Facilities all appear rather new and are well maintained. Staff is friendly, helpful and very attentive. Bugs and other unwelcome swamp critters weren't a problem in February but I wonder about the summer. The only negative I can think of is lack of sewer hook ups. Park was full on weekends so reservations would be a good idea. Nearest town is Springfield. It is literally a one stop light crossroads but there is a grocery store, hardware and a bakery/coffee shop called Navarre's with free wiFi. Within a few more miles are a Camping World and many of the major chain stores and restaurants. Park is convenient to both I-55 and I-12.

The campground is nicely situated with dunes between it and the ocean that reduce the wind considerably, though not entirely. There are several breaks in the dunes, so the beach is still readily accessible. It's not a manicured swimming beach. There is very little human litter but you'll find driftwood, seaweed and the usual things you'd expect on a natural beach. Its been several years and a couple hurricanes since I was here last and efforts against beach erosion have been very effective. It was rather cold most of this visit but during the few warmer evenings, bugs were a problem. They sprayed the surrounding area and that helped somewhat. Sites are all paved, level pull throughs. Each has some grass and a few have trees but there is still a slight parking lot feel. They've done an excellent job coming back from the hurricanes. The fishing pier, one of two bath houses and one of two dump stations were still out of service. They started work on the second bath house while I was there. The town of Grand Isle is tiny at its peak and this is the off season. There is a grocery/hardware/general store that has most anything you may need. The Sand Dollar Marina has a laundromat that was brand new, open 24 hours and rarely used this time of year. Anything else is quite some distance away. I had a sudden need for a veterinarian. There was one about 30 miles away that refused to even talk to me. The next nearest was over 50 miles.

I was last here several years and a couple hurricanes ago. Compared to then the place has been devastated. I have to disagree with some others and say that the repair efforts are not going well. All sites are newly paved with full hookups (w/e/s). However, mine was not very level and the positioning of the hookups was terrible. With a 16 foot sewer hose and a support I was only able to back in half way and had to go get some planks to get the hose flowing downhill. The sites around me looked similar. There are few trees and they don't seem very healthy. The laundry opened while I was there with all new equipment. Several bath houses and one of the tennis courts were open. There is evidence of damage everywhere. If this park ever comes back to where it was it will be many years. Most of my neighbors were long time regulars who come to meet old friends. I don't see any other reason for camping here. The surrounding area has everything you could want by way of eating, shopping, etc.

Sites are concrete or packed gravel, large and well spaced. Mine was level as a good pool table. All the facilities are well maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful. Sewer hookups would be nice, but otherwise I can't think of anything bad to say about the campground itself. The only negative for me was the location. Everything is more than 20 miles away. As much as I like getting away from it all that can get a little inconvenient. Make your shopping list carefully because you won't want to go back for whatever you forgot.

This was the first campground I ever tried when I got my first TT almost 10 years ago. I've been there many time since and it remains one of my all time favorites. It is extremely well maintained. Rules are politely but firmly enforced. The hill next to the campground obstructs satellite TV for some sites. Good signal for my Verizon cell phone. There is a small but nice, unguarded, beach and several playgrounds. Sites vary from lakeside to hillside with a great view. One loop has full hookups. Four others have water and electric only. Two have none and one of those is probably best suited for tents and small pop-ups only. All of the sites with hookups are paved and all the sites I've used have been reasonably level. The Grand Canyon of PA is nearby and worth the visiting. Tioga is just a crossroads with a few small businesses. Nearby Wellsboro is a little larger with shopping and dining. There's also a Walmart within a few miles.

The beach sites are great. Good firm ground, not like some of the other beach camping I've experience. Even the biggest rigs can park water front here. Its not much of a swimming beach. Though I'm not one myself, I was surrounded by fishermen. I found the park in general exceptionally well maintained. On two occasions I saw park staff stop trucks and get out to pick up a single can. The WiFi only works within a couple hundred feet of the main entrance. That only covers a few sites in the wooded area and a picnic table next to the office.

Large, level, well spaced sites. Friendly, helpful staff. The noise from the adjacent plant is the only reason I didn't give it a 10 but nobody should pass it up just because of that. Its really not that bad. I'm sure I'll be back. Next time I want a site on the river. Huge barges pass several times a day.
